When dust, fumes, vapors, gases or a lack of oxygen cannot be controlled by ventilation or other engineering controls, workers may need a respirator. The OSHA Respiratory Protection Standard, 29 CFR 1910.134, requires a written respiratory protection program, medical evaluations, fit testing and training for workers who must wear respirators.
This course is for workers in construction, manufacturing, painting and coating, healthcare, agriculture, mining, demolition and abatement who wear or may wear a respirator, and for supervisors who manage respirator users.
You will learn why respirators are needed, the difference between air-purifying and supplied-air respirators, how filters and cartridges are chosen, what assigned protection factors mean, how to do a user seal check, and how to inspect, clean, store and maintain a respirator. The course also covers the limits of respirators, warning signs that a respirator is not working, and voluntary use.
