The OSHA Bloodborne Pathogens Standard, 29 CFR 1910.1030, protects workers who can reasonably be expected to contact blood or other potentially infectious materials (OPIM) as part of their job. Employers must train these workers when they are first assigned and at least once a year after that.

You will learn what bloodborne pathogens are, how HIV, hepatitis B (HBV) and hepatitis C (HCV) are spread, and how universal precautions, engineering controls, safe work practices and personal protective equipment prevent exposure. The course also covers sharps safety, cleaning and decontamination, regulated waste, labels and signs, the hepatitis B vaccine, and exactly what to do after an exposure incident.
