Electricity is a hazard you cannot see, hear or smell until something goes wrong. This course explains how electrical injuries happen and what keeps people safe around electrical equipment, in plain language.
Please read this before you buy: this is awareness-level training. It does not make you a qualified person and does not authorize you to work on or near exposed energized electrical parts. Under OSHA 29 CFR 1910.332 and 1910.399, a qualified person needs training and demonstrated skills for the specific equipment and work. Your employer decides who is qualified and must provide task-specific, hands-on training.
The course is built for people who work near electrical equipment, such as machine operators, maintenance helpers, janitorial staff, supervisors and warehouse staff. People who are or will become qualified persons can use it as a classroom introduction alongside their employer's hands-on training.
It has 7 modules: how electricity hurts people (shock, arc flash and arc blast); the rules from OSHA and NFPA 70E and what "qualified" means; turning it off first with the electrically safe work condition; energized work, boundaries and arc flash labels; protective equipment such as arc-rated clothing, gloves and tools; everyday electrical safety; and electrical emergencies, human factors and your responsibilities.
The course explains the ideas in NFPA 70E in its own words and does not reproduce the standard. Gama Safety is not affiliated with NFPA. Always follow the edition of NFPA 70E your employer has adopted and your site's electrical safety program.
