OSHA's hot work rules, including 29 CFR 1910.252 and 1926.352, require precautions such as a fire watch when certain conditions exist. This course teaches what a fire watch and a hot work crew need to know.
Please read this before you buy: the course does not certify or authorize a fire watch. Your employer designates and trains fire watchers, and hands-on portable extinguisher training under 1910.157(g) is the employer's responsibility. The course does not state that you meet NFPA 51B.
The course is built for fire watchers, welders and other hot work employees, maintenance staff, and supervisors who issue or follow hot work permits.
It has 6 modules: hot work and how fires start; the hot work permit system; preparing the work area; the fire watch; fire basics and portable extinguishers; and communication, stopping work and emergencies. The 30-minute post-work watch taught is the OSHA minimum cited in the lessons; your permit may require longer, so follow it. Six videos add about 64 minutes, and three of them are marked optional.
The course is 100% online and self-paced and works on desktop, tablet or phone. You can stop and continue anytime, and your progress saves automatically. It ends with a 20-question final exam (pass mark 80%, unlimited free retakes, highest score counts). When you pass you can download a certificate of completion. The course is in English only.
